Hiking Mount Kerinci

At 3.805 m (12,484 ft) above sea level, Kerinci is the highest volcano in Indonesia, and the highest volcano in Southeast Asia. Kerinci is located in the border of the titular Kerinci Regency of Jambi province and South Solok Regency of West Sumatera province. We will start hiking Mount Kerinci. After two days of hiking we will reach the summit where you will be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valley. After rest one night in homestay we will continue our trek to Lake Gunung Tujuh, a beautiful crater lake located in Kerinci Seblat National Park. We will spend the day trekking around the lake.

ITINERARY :
Day 1 – Arrival in Padang
Upon your arrival at Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), you will be picked up and transferred to your homestay in Kerinci within about 7-8 hours of driving.
NOTE :
We recommend booking morning arrival at 8am or 9am so you can arrive in Kerinci in the afternoon about 5pm

Day 2 – Hiking to campsite
After having breakfast we will head to trailhead using a local vehicle about 30 minutes. Arrived at the trailhead (1800m) the hike to campsite Shelter 3 begins. Along the way you will pass through the tropical rainforest with 3 stopping points post 1to post 3. If we are lucky we can see several types of mammals such as black gibbon and surili sumatera. And then we arrived at Shelter 1 (2550 m) for having lunch. After having lunch we continue to Shelter 2 (3100m) through the sub-montane forest and then campsite Shelter 3 (3349m). At the campsite you will be welcomed with hot tea & beautiful scenery. Before the rest our crew will present a fully cooked warm dinner at the campsite.

Day 3 – Summit
After having bread with a hot tea or coffee we will start hiking to the summit before sunrise. Hiking up is very steep. As it gets light, a spectacular view of Kerinci gets slowly into sight. Finally we will stand on the highest volcano in Southeast Asia ‘Mount Kerinci 3805m’ with an incredible view over West Sumatera and Jambi with many other peaks, mountain ranges and lake around. And below us not only that, the active crater of Mount Kerinci, 300m deep is in fronts of us. After spent time around the summit, we walk down to campsite, having brunch. And we are heading to trailhead and return to homestay.

Day 4 – Lake Gunung Tujuh
After having breakfast from homestay we will head to Lake Gunung Tujuh trailhead using a local vehicle for 40 minutes. We start the hike of approximately 2hours to the lake. Upon arrival at lake we will ask you to have lunch first by the side of the lake. After that you can enjoy the beauty of Lake Gunung Tujuh and if you like swimming is the best activity for you. But we need to remind you that you can’t use soap and can’t wear a bikini. Make sure you bring a towel. And we will return to homestay.

Day 5 – End trip
Having a breakfast from homestay. Prepared to Check out and transferred to Minangkabau International Airport (PDG).
NOTE : We recommend booking the flight in the evening/night.
