Here’s a 7-days itinerary for a well-balanced North Sumatera adventure, covering Bukit Lawang (orangutans & jungle), Berastagi (volcano & culture), and Lake Toba (island life & waterfalls).

Day 1 – Arrival in Medan → Bukit Lawang

Arrive at Kualanamu International Airport (Medan).
Meet your driver and transfer to Bukit Lawang (approx. 4 hrs).
Lunch in the city.
Enjoy the scenic drive through palm oil and rubber plantations.
Check in at your riverside Hotel.
Relax by the Bohorok River.

Day 2 – Bukit Lawang Jungle Trek (Overnight in the Jungle)

Breakfast & check out from hotel.
Begin with 6 hours jungle trek in Gunung Leuser National Park.
Search for Sumatran orangutans, monkeys, hornbills, and tropical flora.
Lunch in the jungle, continue trekking with your guide.
Set up camp near a small river.
Jungle dinner prepared by your guide.
Enjoy the sounds of the rainforest at night.

Day 3 – Jungle Trek (Return) → Bukit Lawang

Breakfast in the jungle.
Short morning hike back toward Bukit Lawang.
Lunch in the jungle.
Jungle rafting (tubing down the river) back to your accommodation.

Day 4 – Bukit Lawang → Berastagi

Breakfast from hotel.
Drive from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi (approx. 4 hrs).
Stop at Abandoned village.
Lunch in the city.
Check in to hotel in Berastagi.

Day 5 – Mount Sibayak Sunrise Hike → Lake Toba

Start your Mount Sibayak sunrise hike (easy–moderate trek, 1.5 hrs up).
Enjoy panoramic sunrise views over Berastagi.
Breakfast on the top of Sibayak.
Descend and relax at natural hot springs in Lau Sidebuk debuk.
Check out hotel.
Stop at Dokan village to see traditional house.
Drive to Sipiso-piso Waterfall, one of Indonesia’s tallest waterfalls.
Lunch in the city.
Continue to Lake Toba (approx. 2 hrs).
Check in to hotel in Samosir island.

Day 6 – Lake Toba (Samosir Island Exploration)

Visit Huta Siallagan (ancient stone chairs & execution site).
Huta Raja, this is a village that people weaving Ulos (Batak toba traditional cloth).
Lunch in the city.
Bukit Holbung, a majestic view of Lake Toba that we can see from this hill.
Bukit Sibea, this is a religious tourism attraction nestled in Samosir. It offers the best view of hills surrounding of Lake Toba. We can also find the highest statue of Jesus here. It is about 61 m.

Day 7 – Lake Toba → Medan or Airport

Breakfast from hotel.
Check out hotel.
Ferry from Samosir to Parapat.
Drive back to Medan (approx. 3-4 hrs).
Stop for lunch at Pematang Siantar.
Transfer to Kualanamu Airport or Medan hotel.
End of tour.
